The International GAHA Camp for Gold DofE Award Holders Alumni was held in Poděbrady, Czech Republic during the first week of August. The aim of the GAHA Camp is to continue with personal development of the participants even after completing the three official levels of the award and also to develop international networks of DofE Alumni. This year, the camp hosted young people from Malta, Finland, Poland, Turkey and Czech Republic. The structure of the camp copied the structure of the DofE award; there were activities from the four core areas: skill development, sport, volunteering and an expedition.

New information, contacts, additional motivation and common experiences – this is what awaited the participants of the National Event of the Czech DofE Award Leaders that took place from 26 to 28 September in Buzice u Blatné. The event was attended by 18 trained Leaders from 12 participating organizations. Some of them have been offering the DofE Award for years; others were new to the Award. That is why a lot of time was devoted to sharing experiences and best practice of the DofE Award.

Three days of wonderful experiences, meeting inspirational people and attending workshops with professionals – this is what participants of the national event of the Duke of Edinburg’s International Award (the DofE Award) that took place on the weekend of 11-13 October 2013 have brought home with them. The event, which was held in the Jizera Mountains, was attended by young people, teachers and other youth workers from over a dozen Award Units – two secondary schools, two leisure centres and one children’s home. The meeting, which brings together students, their teachers and young people from different backgrounds, was visited also by Martin Půta, Governor of the Liberec Region.

Sixty young people who completed the Bronze and Silver levels of the DofE Awards were awarded on 26 September. They came from prestigious secondary schools, leisure centres, children’s homes and young offender institutions. At a ceremony held at the Emauzy Monastery, they heard words of praise and received certificates and badges from a number of personalities.

In September, four DofE Award candidates got the opportunity to complete their Gold expedition in Ireland. And they succeeded. The expedition was held in Wicklow Mountains, which is a mountain range south of Dublin. The participants weren’t only Czech, but also Irish, Slovenian and Latvian. The experience is narrated by the participants themselves.

On 6 February, at the British Embassy there was introduced the new look of the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award. The event was attended by the representatives of the current providers of the programme and of organisations that are interested in providing the programme in future. By their presence, the programme was supported by Her Excellency Sian MacLeod, British Ambassador to the Czech Republic, and Michal Urban, Director of the Youth Department of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
