The International Gold Event, which is a prestigious global leadership programme with an impressive 50-year tradition, takes place in the Czech Republic this year. Registration for the participants was open to all nationalities and therefore we are expecting 100 DofE participants from around the world.

The Duke of Edinburgh´s International Award, Czech Republic (DofE) has received a donation of 450,000 CZK from the Macquarie Group Foundation to support its work with socially marginalised youth and widen the network of schools and other institutions involved in the Award Program.

Markéta Peggy Marvanová, an ultra biker that is just twenty years old, will start the Tour Divide, the world's longest self-supported mountain-bike race, on 12 June. By her performance, Peggy wants to help eleven-year-old Daniela (Dája) Málková, who suffers from myopathy, and raise enough money for buying a special double-bike for Dája. Ahead of Peggy there are 4,418 kilometres on bike, dangerous terrain, snowy mountains, desert, wild animals and nearly one month of solitude. She can take up this challenge thanks to support from the Duke of Edinburgh´s International Award (DofE Award).

Several volunteers have been working on The Duke of Edinburgh´s International Award (DofE Award) starting to expand in Slovakia as well. This effort has the support of the Czech National Office, which share with its experience with their Slovak colleagues and helps them prepare their strategic plans or training courses.

Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex, GCVO, will visit Prague to give Awards to the successful participants of The Duke of Edinburgh´s International Award (DofE). From Tuesday, 19 May, HRH will have a rich two-day programme prepared for her by the DofE and the British Embassy in Prague. The Countess will meet students and representatives of Czech schools and Patrons of the Award, Minister of Education Marcel Chládek and Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek. The Countess will participate in a discussion with successful women of Czech business and present Gold Awards to participants.

The application proces for the position of Executive Director of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DofE Award), Czech Republic, is now open. The new director will be responsible for leading the team of the Czech Office and ensuring further expansion and development of the DofE Award in the country.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award (DofE Award) celebrates its 20 years in the Czech Republic this year. In 1995, after a pilot project, the DofE Award started expanding in this country. Since then, thousands of young people have participated in the DofE Award in the Czech Republic in dozens of organisations, from elementary and secondary schools, leisure time centres to non-profit organisations and children’s homes.

More than eighty young people who are not afraid of big goals and are participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DofE) can look forward to financial support of their DofE Activities. Through the DofE Award Fund, which received contributions from the Macquarie Group Foundation and the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC), the National Office will send them support in the total value of CZK 128,440. The DofE Award Fund helps make the DofE Award available to all young people, irrespective of their financial situation, including those from children’s homes.

The Duke of Edinburgh´s International Award Czech Republic will again be honoured by the visit of a member of The British Royal Family. In May, Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex, GCVO, Global Ambassador of The Duke of Edinburgh´s International Award will come to Prague in a programme organised by the Czech Award and the British Embassy in Prague.

The Czech DofE Award Fund was launched last year to support young people with fewer opportunities with covering their DofE Award activities. This time support of nearly 2,000 EUR (53,300 CZK) was approved to go to DofE Award Participants from 8 organisations including childrens homes as well as regular high schools and leisure time centres. Since the launch of the fund more than 7,500 EUR in total was granted to dozens of DofE Award Participants from socially disadvantaged background.
